Making the World a better place

I am often asked the question- What can I do to make the world a better place?  One thing I feel we should do is not burn fossil fuels. I know this sounds crazy, but I feel we should walk everywhere instead of burning up gas in our cars.  That would make our lives so much easier. Pollution is another reason I should change the world.  Pollution is the second leading cause of endagerment of animals.  Animals are treaures to the world, and it's hard for the animlas to lose thier homes, when really pollution is 100% preventable.  Recently, we experinced the BP oil spill. This led to the endangerment of many aqautic animlas.   That makes us wonder why.  Another reason  I should make the world a better place is not to cut down so many trees. Every day, animals in the rainforest are losing thier homes, and we are using that for paper and other writing materials.  That is really sad. The last thing I want to address is recycling. I am guilty of this myself. I need to recycle more. So should the rest of the world.  If every household recycles, that would make a big difference. these are reasons I want to make the world a better place.

Austin Hopcia

I had the chance to  interview Austin Hopcia.  Austin was born on January 31st, 1996.  He is currently 15 years old.  Austin is a sophomore at Alden High School.  He has two younger sisters, Carly and Holly.  Austin is the cousin of  Richard Hopcia.  Austin has been on the JV football team, the JV basketball team, and the Varsity baseball team. Last year, Austin was a freshman on the JV baseball team. He moved up to the varsity team halfway through the season. As a freshman, that was pretty impressive.  Austin's  football and  basketball jersey number is #24. His jersey number is uncertain for the varsity baseball season.   Austin has hobbies other than sports. He likes to play Xbox and other video games. He also likes to hang out with friends and watch movies. Austin's favorite color is green.  Austin's favorite class is Online Publishing because he likes to write.  His favorite teachers are Mr. Currin and Mr. Cayea.  Austin's least favorite classes are Spanish and Earth Science because  they are hard.  Austin has Mrs. Bushway for Earth Science, which makes the class a whole lot harder.  For the holidays, Austin is going to South Carolina.   A fun fact is that Austin goes to the same chuch as me.  It was nice getting to know such a wonderful man like Austin Hopcia.

Things have changed

My holiday break is going to be so much different than when I talked about it two or three weeks ago. My grandparents are still coming. They are coming for much longer than I expected. My grandparents have decided to come for two days  instead of  one. That means I have to sleep on the floor for TWO nights instead of one. That really stinks.
My friend's plans for break have changed too.  The friends who are going skiing are still going. That's good news.  Some of my friends are staying here.  That will be good for me because I can still call and text them over break.  But something disturbing also happened. The two friends who were going to Las Vegas have suddely decided not to go. I don't know what the reason is,and I'm afraid to ask.  Because I'm just a kid, they think I wouldn't understand. Maybe it's better that way.
Since holiday break is approaching, I'm hoping to get these problems out of my head.  Once Christmas is over, 2012 will begin. It's going to be a new year. And a new year means the chance for a fresh start.

The 50's- The Golden Age

If I could travel back in time, I would travel to the 1950's.  The main reason is because life is different back then than it is now.  In the 1950's, there were no computers. Unlike many young people of the Internet  generation, I don't go on the computer much.  So this is a big impact to me.  I would also be around for some of the biggest movies in American history, such as Ben Hurr, Giant, Rebel Without a Cause, and the Disney classics Old Yeller,  and Swiss Family Robinson. Hollywood was much more secure unless I worked at MGM. My crushes in the 1950's would probably be Rock Hudson, James Dean, Sal Mineo,   Tyrone Power,  Peter Lawford, Bobby Driscoll, and James MacArthur.  The 1950's was also the birth of rock' and roll. When it comes to music, I would listen to Eddie Fisher and Ricky Nelson.   I would also like to drive the car the James Dean had when he was killed in a car crash.  I would also like to go back to the 1950's because I would  discover the vaccine for polio. I would aslo witness the Soviet's release of  Sputnik.  That shows that us Americans can advance in technology.   The 1950's was considered the golden age by historians everywhere. I would love to go there if I had the chance.

This week in math class

I had a pretty exciting week in math. I was very fortunate to have math only twice this week. But those two days were exciting.
To some people, they wouldn't get why math class is so exciting. But if they stepped into my College Algebra class for one second, they would know .
This week started with a particualry unexciting event.  I got my math test back. To make a long story short, I flunked.  Another reason why math class was so exciting is that I get to talk to my friend Jess Smith.  We talk about every topic imaginable. Jess always talks about her hetic schedule.
My math teacher can tolerate our class-up to a point. On Tuesady, she kicked some kid named Steve out of her class.  That was easier on all of us.
On Thursday, my teacher taught the majority of the class. That was okay with us.  My class got through the math lesson, and then we were able to talk for the rest of the class. Jess and I talked about clothes and Jess' new UGGS.
The best part of the class was when Emily Blood read Justin's poem to the entire class. I thought the poem was funny.
Some people would complain about math class. But math was exciting for me this week.

Over the weekend

I don't have much to write about, so I'm going to write about what I'm doing this weekend.  After this class ends, I'm going to go home and hang out with my family. We are going to eat dinner and then watch some TV.  This is what I call casual Friday.  I know I'm such a geek for hanging out with my family, but that's what I do. On Saturday, my family and I are going out to lunch with my aunt and uncle.  I'm not sure what we are going to do afterwords.  Sunday will be the buisest day of my weekend. My mom, my sister, and I are going to church in the morning. Then we are going to the Galleria mall for some shopping. We are going to be there almost all day.  Because each of us has some Christmas presents left to buy, we are going to be on our own for most of the day.  Then there's lunch. The three of us will meet up again for lunch at the food court.  We will probably get food at Subway.  My mom will get her usual tuna sub, and I will get my usual flatbread.  After a long day of shopping, we head home.  Then it's off to our seperate desires. My mom will read. My sister will talk on the phone to her boyfriend. And I will watch a movie. This weekend, I will watch a movie called Decisions. Decisions is Corey Haim's last movie before his death in  March 2010.  And that is my weekend.

Flying vs. Driving

Wer'e back on the topic about what my friends are doing during the holidays.  In the last blog, I mentioned how two of my friends are going to Las Vegas.  One day during study hall, I was curious about  the flying and driving times to get to Las Vegas.

On Friday, I figured out how long it takes to fly from Buffalo to Las Vegas.  It is a short amount of time.  A direct flight is only 3 hours and 57 minutes. That is really suprising to me since Buffalo and Las Vegas is almost cross country.  There are at least 25 airports between Buffalo and Las Vegas. And stopping at one of these airports with a four hour layover takes much longer than 3 hours and 57 minutes. It could take a full DAY with layovers.  I'd rather have the direct flight.

On Monday, I figured out the driving time from Buffalo to Las Vegas. The total driving time is 1 day, 10 hours, and 22 minutes.  Driving takes SO much longer than flying for various reasons. There are constant stops such as the bathroom, fast food places, and hotels.  Traffic is another thing. One time, my family and I were coming back from South Carolina, and we were stuck in a slow down for 45 minutes. Or you could be stuck with a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. That is no fun.  All of these reasons delay the driving time. The good thing about driving is taking the senic route. But that has its problems, too.  The senic route is good only if there is an extra few days on hand.

If you ask me, I'd rather fly.  There isn't a bad thing about flying except the layovers. It's not that I hate driving,I don't. I just don't like the delays that come with driving.

I know I am boring everybody who is reading this, so I'm just going to end this blog.

Choice Blog

I don't have a speicfic name for this particular blog. I decided to write about what is going on during the holiday break. I am going to have my grandparents to stay with us for two days after Christmas.  They are going to sleep in my room, and I have to sleep on the floor in my sister's room. That is NOT fun.  Not with a capital N. The problem is that I don't sleep very well when I have to sleep on the floor.  I end up staring at the wall for half of the night. That is not very exciting. The other problem is that it is uncomfortable. It is hard to imagine being in an uncomfortable sleeping bag for one night.  Try dealing with two!  My grandparents are great, but how much of them can you take?   Uggh! I can't believe my mom ever agreed to this.

My friends, on the other hand, are going to have a much better holiday break than me. Some of my friends are going skiing.  Two of my friends are lucky enough to go to Las Vegas. I envy them so much!  Even my friends who are staying here are having more fun than me. A group of my friends are going to the movies to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie.

I have one last thing to say. I hope to survive by the end of holiday break.
