Mary Poppins

For my choice blog, I decided to write about a timeless Disney classic, Mary Poppins.   This timeless classic is about a nanny named Mary Poppins( Julie Andrews) who flies in in her umbrella to take care of the Banks children (Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber.)  An intresting thing is Mary Poppins and Mrs. Banks never actually speak to each other throught the film.  She comes to entertain the children, and they like her very much.  They meet a  magic man named Bert. ( Dick Van Dyke). And they enjoy the wonder of the magicial world. The best part has to be when Bert takes the kids into the sidewalk chalk drawings. There, they sing 'Jolly Holiday.' Another one of my favorite parts is when the kids ride the magic carousel. The sceneries and landscapes of London city are stunning when Mary Poppins is floating on the air on her umbrella.  It's easy to understand why Mary Poppins is such a beloved classic: its simplicity, its magic, its special/visual effects, its beautiful songs, its good morals, its charm, its characters, its classic humor, its combination of live-action and animation and great actors. The way how this combines live-action and animation is very good. Amazing for its time and keeps working out fine. A few years later, I wondered what happened to the little boy who played Michael Banks. I wanted to know what happened to him. I found out a couple days ago that Matthew Garber passed away very young.  Matthew Garber unknowingly contracted hepatitis while in India in 1976, and by the time his father was able to get him home to London several months later, the disease had spread to his pancreas and was untreatable.  He was 21 years old when he died of pancreatis.  Mary Poppins still remains magical today.

The Greatest Moment

The greatest moment of my life happend in my Earth Science Lab.  My lab partner was Scott Aldinger. We were working next to Elliott Biggs and Domenic Brotz. This lab was a  lab where there were timed trials, so Scott and I ended up talking to Elliott and Domenic anyway.  During this one trial, I asked Elliott if he's seen the movie, Rio Bravo.   Elliott said he had, and I wanted to know if the movie was any good. "Yes." Rats! I wanted to see that movie!  I asked him if we could watch it together sometime, and he responded with another "Yes."  During another trial, Elliott burped, and I started laughing. That was great!  Then, I got  bored.  The lab was getting old. And I mean very old.   So I turned to Domenic. "Have you seen Rio Bravo?" It's a Ricky Nelson movie."  Instead of answering with an unenthusatic "No," Domenic said "What else does he do?"  "Well, he sings." I replied. I started singing the chorus from 'I'm Walkin.'" "Oh." he said.  Elliott and Scott looked at us. "Does Ricky Nelson sing this song?" And he started singing 'Livin' La Vida Loca'.   I started laughing. Then Scott and Elliott started laughing.  And then the laughing evaporated. I was laughing so much that I didn't have the heart to tell  Domenic that he was singing a Ricky Martin song. And that was the greatest moment of my life.

All of the seasons

After thinking about it, I decided I don't really have a favorite season. Instead, I am going to tell you about each of the seasons and why I like them. What I like about winter is the first snow. It is always magical watching the falling snow.  But the only trouble is the snow gets boring after Christmas.  I obviously like Christmas. It is my favorite holiday of the year. I also like trimming the tree becuase I know Christmas is coming.  Another thing about winter is that we get hot chocolate all the time. I like the hot chocolate with all of the little marshmallows floating at the top.  Spring is the time where the snow melts and the rain comes crashing down.  Then in May, the flowers start to bloom.  When I was younger, I liked to pick flowers and give them to my mother. I would give them to her for Mother's Day.  Spring would linger on until June. In June, summer starts. School ends with nail biting exams and farewell parties.  After a long last day of school, summer vacation begins.  Carnivals roll into town, and exciting things happen. ( I kind of had to slap a friend for getting out of line.)  I like swimming whenever I can. The final season I'm discussing is fall.   The leaves change colors and fall onto the ground. When I was younger, I used to jump in the leaf piles with my friends. Then I would watch The Lost Boys and Poltergeist every Halloween. I also like to go on a hayride with my friends. This is why I don't have a favorite season.

Facebook

Fortuantley for me, I do not use Facebook. I guess the main reason for using Facebook is to keep touch with friends. But to me, Facebook is addicting, and once you start, there is no getting out of it. Facebook addiction causes you to be on Facebook every single moment of your day where you really could be doing something else.  Now isn't that a waste of time? It is also said that indivuals who use Facebook tend to get lower grades than students who don't.  There is also drama on Facebook. Usually, the Facebook drama shows when kids are not acting like themselves.  There is also something called Facebook depression.  People think depression is a distinct connection with the online site.  This in some ways is true to the online site. Another problem is cyberbullying. Young adults have taken thier lives over drama on Facebook. This has happened many times, and it's up to the point where cyberbullying needs to be adressed.  Facebook can be both good and bad. It depends on how you use it. The choice is yours.

Interests

Honestly, there are many things I feel comfortable writing about.  One of the things I am comfortable writing about is movies. I like to watch movies, and I have many favorites. My mom got me started on movies, and now I'm hooked.  I am also comfortable writing about holidays. Technically, I like writing about  Halloween and Christmas because they are the most interesting.  I like all of the fall carnivals because it leads up to Halloween. What I also  like about Halloween is the vampire movies. I never get tired of this one movie, The Lost Boys. Poltergeist is another good Halloween movie. It can be scary at times, but it's worth watching.   I like writing about the happenings in my English class. The people in my class are so nice. We are getting along great. I want to write about Hawaii. I have enjoyed the glamour of Hawaii through the TV show Hawaii Five-O. I  also love to write about animals. They are just so sweet! Writing about the top ten children's book characters is fun too. Rudolph is my favorite children's book character.  That is what I like to write about.

The Best School Year

I can remember many great years of school. 1st grade was fun. We played with Play-doh almost every day.  4th grade was even better.(That was the only year of Intermediate School I was fond with.) 6th grade was my first year of middle school. I didn't know where I was going the first day, and I couldn't open my locker.  In 7th grade, my friends and I were obsessed with The Jonas Brothers and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. In 8th grade, I graduated from middle school. To be honest, I was quite sad, but I was ready to start new beginings in high school. 9th grade was my freshmen year. I got lost on my first day, and I couldn't open my locker. I also had the two toughest classes in the first sememster of my freshmen year- Algebra and Biology. ( I liked Bio.) But my favorite year had to be last year-sophomore year. My first semester included 3A-3C English. My friends Matt Shields, Krissy Tur, Jenna Snyder, Natalie Sciandra, Jason Bunk, Corey Barzykowski, and  Domenic Brotz were in my class. The laughs in that class were endless. My English teacher didn't like our constant talking and laughing. He often told us to stop, but the truth was, we had trouble. Another memory of that class was when we were reading To Kill A Mockingbird.  My friends and I were sitting on the windowsill.  ( We were too cool for desks.) One time, I was cold , so I used Matt's football sweatshirt as a blanket. ( Matt was being the best friend he was and let me use it.) My second semester was even better. I enjoyed every day of my second semester. But the best part had to be 4th block. I had Earth Science Lab and Gym every other day. My lab partner was often Scott Aldinger. But the best day was when Domenic Brotz sang "Livin La Vida Loca" WAY out of tune. Everyone in my class was laughing like hyenas.  THAT was a memory I will never forget. 10th grade was my best school year ever, and I will never ever  forget it.

Junior Year

This year is my junior year- a year where I'm hoping to accomplish many things. This year is tough because some of my classes are tough. This year I am taking English, US History, Psychology, Sociology, Online Publishing,  Gym, Environmental Science, and College Algebra. The class I am most concerned about is College Algebra.  I have always struggled in math, and I am afraid of failing. This is why I hope to pass my classes. I also hope to concentrate better in math because the people near me talk way too much. And I mean WAY too much! Because of this, my math class is more of a party. My next priority is to stay on task with the new schedule. With this new schedule, it is very easy to procrasinate. The new schedule will help me budget my time. I also hope to start looking for colleges. I am interested in looking at UB and Buffalo State.  I also want to get my permit this year. After I get my permit, I want to learn to drive. My mom or my dad will most likely teach me to drive. Then, I will schedule my road test in the summer. I hope to get a job over the summer. I want to work at Carbone's or Darien Lake. This is what I hope to accomplish this year.

What I did this summer

I had a good summer.  I went to the carnival. I met a few of my friends there. The stuff that happened at the carnival was interesting. One of my friends was acting up, and I  kind of  had to slap him. Then I ditched my friends, and met my friend Olivia. We went to meet our friend Nicole, and we ate a lot of food. Then, it was my birthday. I had a family party. (I like family parties better.) I volunteered at VBS at Saint John's church. This was my first year, and I had a really fun time. The highlight of my summer was when I went to a sunflower field with my family. ( We were at a farm.)  I enjoyed looking at all the sunflowers. Afterwords, we  got to see all of the animals at the farm. My favorite was this horse named Stanley.  He was big, and his head was always out of the stall. Then, we had a picnic And I went to the movies with my mom and my sister. I always get sad at the last week of summer, and this year was no exception. But the last Saturday of summer was so fun! I watched a two hour Disney movie. My sister and I made popcorn, and we watched another Disney movie, Finding Nemo. On the last Sunday of summer, I went shopping while my sister and her boyfriend sat by the wishing fountain. I met them at the Food Court. They sat while I ordered fries from a place in the Food Court.  My sister and I split the fries. They ignored me as I continued shopping. (That was fine with me.) I have to say I had a good summer.
